In what has become a yearly tradition in Roselle Park since 1980, the Dads Club Wrestling Tournament was held on January 7 for children in grades K-8.
About 300 wrestlers from a total of 16 towns participated in the tournament during this one-day event that took place. Run at the start on four wrestling mats in the Roselle Park High School gymnasium, this event is a challenging but rewarding one for the Dads Club. Each wrestler is guaranteed two matches, making this tournament as much about growth in the sport than crowning an overall champ in each weight class (PeeWee, Bantam, Midget, Junior and Middle School Division). Still, it was great to see the quality of wrestling—and heart—from each participant, from beginner to more experienced. This event has become one to find quality competition from many parts of the Garden State.
